1 / Do I need my own tools?
No, all tools and materials are provided as part of the course. All tools will have been tuned and sharpened ready for you to use. All you need to bring is a packed lunch!
2 / I've never done any woodworking before, is this course suitable for me?
Absolutely! My beginners courses are designed to for anyone from complete beginners to those who may have had some woodworking experiece. There are a maximum of 5 participants for each course to ensure each participant gets the time and attention they need to develop your skills in your own time and at your own pace.
3 / What should I wear and bring with me.
Hand tool woodworking is physical activity so you need to wear clothes that you can move around in with comfort. I would also recommend wearing older clothes. If you have overalls or a work apron that is ideal. You will need sturdy footwear to work in to avoid any injury (no open toed sandles!). I would also recommend dressing for the weather - it can get quite cold here in Weardale especially in the winter! All you need to bring is a packed lunch, we provide the tea, coffee and biscuits!
4 / Where can I stay nearby?
There are a number of hotels and B&Bs near to Frosterley. The workshop is located at Harehope Quarry which have their own holiday cottage that is available to rent via Airbnb (Search for Alder Cottage, Frosterley or follow the links via the Harehope Quarry website). Alternatively there is accommodation in Frosterely as well our neighbouring villages of Stanhope, Wolsingham, Eastgate and Westgate all of which are within a 10 minute drive of the workshop.
