  • How to work accurately without large machines

  • Timber basics: selection, preparation, and handling

  • Foundational hand skills you’ll build on for life

Discover how to develop your woodworking at home.

Most homes now are not blessed with a lot of space which makes a lot of practical hobbies where people make things (and more specifically need to make a mess in order to make things) difficult to even get started with because you just don’t feel that you have the space. Woodworking is one of those hobbies that people feel you need an extensive workshop filled with huge machines and hundreds of tools. However, a lot of our assumptions come from seeing professional makers rather than the hobbyist. The reality is with woodworking as with many crafts space does not have to be an issue with the use of hand tools.

The small space woodworking course is an online and in person course where over a period of 7-8 weeks, we will give you practical tips, advice and guidance on how to set up and small woodworking space. You will be given plans and cutting lists for a workbench, saw horse, bench hook and your first furniture making project - a hallway bench. As well as this you will be given guidance on what tools you need to get started as well as a step by step online tutorials on workshop set up, woodworking techniques and building you first piece of furniture.

In addition as part of the course you get 3 workshop days here at the ANH Artisan classroom - an introductory seminar and two maker days - as well has online Q&A sessions to help you overcome any issues or solve any problems you any encounter getting started with small space woodworking.
